Robert J. Castaldo is originaly form New York. He began training with Dr. Painter in 1979, and has been specializing in Jiulong Baguazhang since 1987. In October of 2004, after rigorous mental and physical testing, he was promoted to the level of Shifu (instructor) of Jiulong Baguazhang, in a ceremony held at our annual Founders Day Celebration. Shifu Castaldo worked closely with Dr. Painter to develop the Dragon Rolling the Pearl curriculum which is the foundation of all Jiulong Baguazhang training. Along with his duties as the primary Jiulong Baguazhang instructor at The Gompa, Shifu Castaldo oversees Instructor Certification training through our Teacher Training Program. He also serves as a lieutenant in the American Rangers Law Enforcement Martial Training Institute where he specializes in hand to hand combat and pistol methods. Mr. Castaldo fills his spare time as a filmmaker. He has produced, directed, and/or edited scores of feature length motion pictures, and has taught film production at the University of Texas at Arlington.
