Daoist Internal Qigong Practice:
Daoist practice became known as Yang-sheng Dao (the Dao of cultivating life). This system covered virtually every aspect of life in order to establish a harmony of
Heaven, Earth and Humanity, thereby insuring rapid progress on the path of achieving spiritual immortality. This was done by ultimately cultivating the Shen or spirit.
One had to first cultivate the Jing (essence) and the Qi (energy) in order to work with the Shen (spirit).
Daoist Qigong integrates every aspect of life in the path of practice, and links everything together with the common denominator of Qi energy.
Baguazhang being one of the only wholly Daoist martial arts fused Daoist Qigong deeply into its practices. One often sees the symbols of the Yijing
associated with Qigong and Baguazhang martial arts. Interpretations of these arrangements and symbols and their meaning vary from school to school and
even from teacher to teacher. It is good to remember that these symbols are just that, signposts to remind us of specific types of energy to visualize,
directions to face or internal energy systems to activate during practice. This can be a complex art in dealing with Qigong training and is best
left to those well versed in the Yijing and its meaning.
In the Jiulong system there are two circular arrangements used in training. The martial arrangements know as the Fuxi Gua teaches polarity of Yin and Yang
action. For spiritual and healing Qigong practice the "later heaven" or King Wen Gua circular arrangement is studied. This arrangement is based on the seasonal cycles and changes
that affect nature and mankind.

Is Qigong a Religion?
Daoism, Confucianism and Buddhism are often mistakenly identified in the west as religions. One need not practice a specific religious system to train in
Qigong for health or martial or for that matter even spiritual Qigong training. Natural Daoist Qigong that evolved before the advent of religious Daoist practice is the
focus of the Jiulong Baguazhang and Li family methods. It may be safely practiced by anyone of any religious belief without conflict to a preferred spiritual practice.
